Abstract: | The establishment of Ectoedemia quinquella (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae) in the southwestern part of The NetherlandsEctoedemia quinquella is an oak-mining leafminer with a Mediterranean and Atlantic distribution. This paper describes the expansion of the species in The Netherlands after its first discovery in 1988 in the south-eastern part of the country near Maastricht. Until 2006, the species was known from four localities in the southeastern part of the country, one in the east (Winterswijk) and one in the southwest (Oosterhout). A population that was discovered in 2007 in the Isle of Voorne appeared to remain stable in the following years. Two new localities were added in 2011 (Oostkapelle and Hoek van Holland). Then in 2012, the authors made an extensive search for E. quinquella in the area around Rotterdam, and proved the presence of mines in 25 out of 30 studied 25-km squares. |
