Ectoedemia populella Busck, 1907: 98 (Original designation and monotypy)
Etymology:
έκτόσ (ektos), outside; οίδημα(oidéma), a swelling, a tumour: from the larval feeding habits of the type species. The genus was erected to accommodate the North American nepticulid E. populella Busck, 1907; the larva feeds in a leaf petiole of Populus spp,, causing a gall to develop.
