Nomenclatorial Notes:
Stigmella resplendensella (Chambers, 1875) was placed as species with uncertain affinities due to the lacking abdomen in the lectotype (Newton and Wilkinson 1982). We re-examined the lectotype and could match the characteristic metallic forewing colour pattern to two males and one female we had on loan, of which the female had been barcoded (see also BugGuide: http://bugguide.net/node/view/391014/bgpage). Barcode and genitalia confirm that S. resplendensella is closely related to S. unifasciella (Chambers, 1875), as earlier suggested by Braun (1917). Further details to be published elsewhere.
